China is ready for a war of any kind if the United States decides to pursue the path, the Chinese Embassy in the US has warned amid the escalating tensions between the two countries. The Embassy made the claim on social media while responding to the additional 10 per cent tariffs on Chinese goods that came into effect on Tuesday.
"If war is what the US wants, be it a tariff war, a trade war or any other type of war, we¡¯re ready to fight till the end," the Chinese Embassy stated.
"If the US truly wants to solve the fentanyl issue, then the right thing to do is to consult with China by treating each other as equals," it added.
Earlier, the spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry had also termed the US linking China to the fentanyl issue ¡®a flimsy excuse¡¯ to raise tariffs on Chinese imports.
"The U.S., not anyone else, is responsible for the fentanyl crisis inside the U.S. In the spirit of humanity and goodwill towards the American people, we have taken robust steps to assist the U.S. in dealing with the issue. Instead of recognising our efforts, the U.S. has sought to smear and shift blame to China and is seeking to pressure and blackmail China with tariff hikes. They¡¯ve been PUNISHING us for helping them," the spokesperson said.
Trump, who assumed office promising to punish all countries with which the US has a trade deficit by imposing tariffs on them, had singled out Canada and Mexico along with China, the three largest trade partners of America.
Trump imposed a 25 per cent tariff on all imports from Mexico and Canada, while an additional 10 per cent was imposed on Chinese goods.
Canada and Mexico responded by announcing their own 25 per cent tariffs on imports from the US.
Similarly, China has announced that the country will impose 10-15 per cent tariffs on imports from the US, including chicken, corn, wheat, and cotton, starting from March 10.
