The COVID-19 outbreak that started in a market in Wuhan, Hubei province in China has truly hit the pause button on the entire world. After claiming lives of over 14,000 people and infecting over 3 lakh people, authorities and citizens across the world are on high alert, including India.
Since last week, in order to follow social distancing and preventing the spreading of the novel coronavirus, many people in India have started to work from home.?
Last week, several cab drivers expressed their concerns over not getting enough riders to complete their daily quotas. This gave us some idea about the number of people who are now working from home.
However, have you really thought about how many people in the city are truly working from home? We have got our hands on the data and the result is truly astonishing.
According to a report by MoveInSync -- an office commute platform, there has been a considerable drop in commute across the country. As of March 20, 2020 over 52 percent of people across India's major cities are actually working from home.
The city with the most amount of people working from home is Pune with a truly mind-blowing 63 percent of people not commuting for their work anymore. This is followed by Bengaluru at a very good rate of 61 percent.
Mumbai comes third on the list, amounting to 58 percent of the entire workforce. Chennai comes fourth with 54 percent. 5th on the list is Hyderabad with 41 percent people working from home and 6th being NCR at a surprising 39 percent.?
The data is based on over 25 lakh cab trips clocked per month by MoveInSync. Also, since the weekend, authorities across the country have already stopped people from stepping out of their homes entirely, so this number might surely have skyrocketed by now.?
