We've all had time to play around with ChatGPT, but now various iterations of the viral chatbot are making waves online. One such version is called Auto-GPT that is built on top of GPT-4 (just like ChatGPT) and expands the capabilities of ChatGPT.
When you use ChatGPT, you're in a back-and-forth conversation with the chatbot. But with Auto-GPT, this need is eliminated. You just tell the AI bot what you want and it can do the rest. As Auto-GPT developer Significant Gravitas (Toran Bruce Richards) said, it essentially chains together LLM (large language models) like GPT-4 and the likes.
Auto-GPT is able to gather specific information and data from the internet, something ChatGPT's free version cannot do. It also has short-term and long-term memory management and uses GPT-4 for text generation and GPT-3.5 for file storage and summarisation. In essence, there's a lot going that makes Auto-GPT so powerful.
For instance, in the Tweet below, you can see how Auto-GPT performs market research for different headphones then fishes out top five headphones while listing their pros and cons. It essentially is able to process a lot of information.

Another user (seen below) did something similar but with shoes. It asked Auto-GPT to research waterproof shoes and then to come back with top 5 options. The most surprising part of this particular exercise was probably how Auto-GPT managed to weed out certain reviews that could be "biased or fake."
Even then, Auto-GPT is just a prototype. As its developer wrote on GitHub, Auto-GPT is not a polished application, "just an experiment" and that it might not perform really well in complex, real-world business scenarios. Regardless, the fact that it can do so much with simple straightforward prompts is amazing to witness.
