With every passing day, India is on its way to becoming self-reliant in the field of tech, and not relying on importing tech from China.?
And now, the government has finalised a proposal to set up India¡¯s very first Electronics Commission to push manufacturing of electronics in India?to the next level.
This is according to a report by Economic Times who was in conversation with top government sources who chose to remain anonymous.?
The report highlights that as of now, electronics amount to 32 percent of the total imports that India receives from China, amounting to $65.26 billion in the year 2019-2020.?
The electronics commission of India will allow the nation to remove hindrances in the way of manufacturing electronics in India, to enable the growth of the sector overall.
The anonymous sources have stated that the commission will enable electronics manufacturing in India right from the foundry stage, that¡¯s the very beginning.??
He added, ¡°The proposed commission would be used to give a fillip to government¡¯s proposed incentives to the sector to set up large scale manufacturing units in India to serve the domestic demand besides ensuring India becomes an export hub for electronics."
Not only will the commission help in addressing and clearing challenges related to infrastructure, finance, the unavailability of power and even skill sets -- providing a one-stop solution for electronic design and manufacturing.?
The ET report highlights that domestic electronics hardware manufacturing sector is around 8.5 to 11 percent behind global players in pricing due to several issues and a commission like this would help them bridge this gap.

The authorities are already encouraging global players to manufacture and assemble their devices in India by providing better tax benefits and incentives.?
Recently, the authorities have dropped clauses which involved evaluation of plant and machinery to be brought from China and South Korea into India at 40 percent of its value, among some other requests that will enable more smartphones to be made in India.
