There might be a lot of people in India just dying to get their turn with a Tesla. After, not only are they cool electric cars, they also don¡¯t look too shabby either.
Unfortunately, that might be for a little longer, according to CEO Elon Musk¡¯s latest comments.
In a Twitter conversation earlier today, a fan asked Musk when Tesla would come to India, in response to the CEO¡¯s tweet on the global map of Tesla superchargers. His response was that it¡¯s certainly a goal, just not necessarily one right now. ¡°Would love to be in India,¡± he said in the tweet. ¡°Some challenging government regulations, unfortunately. Deepak Ahuja, our CFO, is from India. Tesla will be there as soon as he believes we should.
Celebrity author Chetan Bhagat meanwhile took this as an opportunity to comment on the economic restrictions in India.?
Ahuja, a graduate of IIT Varanasi, has been with Tesla since 2008. If you take Musk¡¯s tweet literally, it could mean Ahuja is the guy Tesla is looking to use as a point man for an India initiative. After all, a local would know the ins and outs of the culture needed to set up shop here.
It¡¯s a plan that¡¯s been on Musk¡¯s mind however. In February last year, he had teased the possibility Tesla would launch In India during the summer, though that never happened. A year before that, Tesla even opened bookings for the Model 3 in India, around the same time it was first unveiled to the world.
