Elon Musk is notoriously famous for walking on a thin line between genius and lunacy. Recent tweets by the tech billionaire are the latest example of that. While the Tesla CEO had already raised the anticipation of every motor head by announcing some jaw dropping stats for the upcoming Tesla Roadster, there might be an entirely new addition to the car now. It might fly!
A quick recap. Musk unveiled the remodelled?Tesla Roadster back in 2017. At the time, the company claimed an acceleration of 0-97 kmph in 1.9 seconds, easily making it the quickest production car ever made. Couple that with a 620 miles (998 kms) range and you have a car, let alone electric, that no existing vehicle known to mankind can match.
Musk never stopped there though. Time and again, he teased that the figures are the ¡°base specs¡± for the Roadster, meaning even crazier versions could come up. Later, he confirmed this by announcing a ¡®SpaceX package¡¯ which will come with cold air thrusters for added acceleration and speed. He had hinted at taking the car to the skies as well, saying the thrusters will ¡°maybe even allow a Tesla to fly.¡±
Most recently, Musk has managed to up the excitement around the electric car yet again with his response to a GIF on Twitter. On a short video loop showing a car taking off vertically from the ground, the tech expert reverted ¡°the new Roadster will actually do something like this¡±.

And no, he is not joking! On the same Twitter thread, he affirmed that this is something he wants to happen. He even mentioned how he aims to achieve this. As per him, ¡°cold gas thruster system with ultra high pressure air¡± instead of the two back seats should do the trick.

Interesting Elon! But whatever happened to your own preference of ¡°going underground¡± instead of up in the sky with flying cars? Remember your oh-so-famous statement, "I don't like flying cars. Can you imagine cars flying over you all the time, buzzing around, I think going underground is a better idea."
Now either that account was required at the time for pushing the idea of Hyperloop and The Boring Co. And subsequently the concept of a super fast flying car needs to be highlighted now for the Tesla Roadster. Or, in a very rare case, the tech visionary recently opened up to the hypothesis of ¡°cars flying over you¡±. Or, very?simply, he is joking.

Whatever the case maybe, don¡¯t get your hopes up just yet. Even if Musk is able to make this a reality, as he did with the numerous crazy ideas he has had over the years, he is also famous, or rather infamous, for a reason. Missing deadlines.
So as long as the ¡®SpaceX package¡¯ for the upcoming Tesla Roadster does not deter the launch of the car itself, due in 2020, we are all praises for the notion of an insanely fast electric car that uses ¡®rocket thrusters¡¯ for speed. Godspeed Elon!
