Google is planning to kill call recording apps on Android starting May 11. The company's new changes for its Play Store Policy include the aim to remove all call recording applications.
First noted by Reddit user NLL Apps, the policy in question would effectively change the way Accessibility API is used by app developers. Google says that the Accessibility API is not intended for remote call audio recording.
An application programming interface (API) includes a series of tools, protocols, and definitions to aid the integration applications and services.
According to Android Authority, Google has been slowly removing APIs that allow call recording on several versions of Android. In Android 10, Google blocked all call recording by default. To trespass this restriction, apps on Play Store started using Accessibility API to record calls. Once the policy changes come into effect next month, this would no longer be possible.

If your smartphone has native call recording support, that would remain unaffected. This change only affects third-party call recording apps on the Play Store. Google also explained in a webinar how apps that are the default dialer on a phone, especially if they came pre-installed, would not require accessibility capability to access the incoming audio stream and more.
It's unclear how these changes will be implemented - whether Google would enforce a removal exercise or developers would make the changes before May deadline for the same.
