Google is developing a series of wearables that would respond to skin gestures. Yep, you read that right. Alphabet Inc's Google's newly patented technology could soon allow users to control wearable accessories like smartwatches and earbuds using skin gestures.
What are skin gestures, you wonder? Quite literally, touching your skin! The new patent called "Skin interface for Wearables: Sensor fusion to improve signal quality" was first spotted by LetsGoDigital.
How would the visionary tech work? Each user would simply swipe or tap the skin near the accessories to enable functions. Think of your earbuds and how you tap them each time you want to pause a song or rewind. Now imagine doing this to the temple instead of the device itself. Insane, right?

According to the patent, the skin gestures would create a mechanical wave that is picked up by sensors situated in the wearables. This "Sensor Fusion" tech then combines movement data from sensors to turn it into an input command for the accessory.
As is true for current gestures that are enmeshed in the device, the intensity and direction of each swipe or tap on the skin would decide what function is performed. These could be a range of features like taking calls, adjusting the volume, playback of media, and more.
