While COVID-19 pandemic is all kinds of bad, there have been a few silver linings -- sort of -- whether it¡¯s the impact on nature with humans locked down or the fact that we no longer have to commute for hours to work (although this has come with its own set of drawbacks), and we feel may be going forward this way seems like a cool idea.?
While most companies around the world won¡¯t prefer working from home, Google is thinking otherwise. Google & Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, in a recent interview with Time 100, revealed how they¡¯re looking to bring a ¡®hybrid¡¯ work model that will extend the current remote-working situation for people who prefer it.
He said in a statement, ¡°I see the future as being more flexible. We firmly believe that in-person, being together, having a sense of community is super important when you have to solve hard problems and create something new so we don¡¯t see that changing. But we do think we need to create more flexibility and more hybrid models.¡±
In a recent survey conducted by Google for its employees, 10 percent of people don¡¯t wish to come to office at all in future (which used to be 20 percent in May), whereas 15 percent wish that they¡¯d only come to the office when it's absolutely necessary.
Another reason Pichai is considering bringing hybrid work environments for Google today is after witnessing the plight of people who commute for hours to reach office and workplaces, while flushing that much time which could have been spent with their family or for personal well-being. Something similar to what we see while working in Indian metros like Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and others, where at times the traffic and commute can be more exhausting.

Pichai added, ¡°It¡¯s always made me wonder ¡ª when I see people commuting two hours and away from their family and friends on a Friday, you realize they can¡¯t have plans. So I think we could do better.¡±
