Intel has finally gone ahead and lifted the veil over its newest and powerful line of mobile CPUs for laptops -- the 10th generation Ice Lake Intel Core processors.
Keeping mobile computing in mind, the new generation of CPUs will ensure laptops are better performing and super power efficient at the same time.
For starters, the processors are constructed in an entirely new architecture called Sunny Cove. it uses a 10-nanometer architecture, which is the smallest ever seen on a laptop platform. What this means is that the processor will take in less power and deliver better performance, which is ideal for laptops and mobile computing devices.?
There are a total of 11 processors that Intel has unveiled globally starting all the way from the humble dual-core Core i3 all the way to a beefy quad-core Core i7. Among the 11 processors, (including the Y-series for ultrabooks and U-series for standard notebooks) Intel is also introducing new series of processors with a G-series moniker, that denotes superior graphical prowess as compared to the standard CPUs. These CPUs will have a G in the end of the serial number to be distinct from others- Like the Core i7 1068G7.
Just like AMD's Ryzen's APUs, Intel has brought decent graphics performance and embedded it right next to the CPUs. The G series processors are available in 3 tiers. The G7 is the top-of-the-line which possess 64EUs or execution units. The second in this tier is the G4 with 48 EUs. Both the G7 and G4 will enjoy the Iris Pro graphics tech. The G1 series will get the standard Intel UHD graphics with 32EUs.
The 10th generation processors have the capability of going as fast as 4.1GHz. When compared to the 8th Generation CPUs, they were easily able to max out at 4.6GHz, but there is a considerable difference in architecture that delivers performance and power consumption improvements that in theory will help the processors to perform better, despite slower clock speeds. According to Intel, the CPUs deliver 18-percent more instructions per clock. Moreover, it is featuring larger L1 and L2 cache, that will definitely help it in performing better than its predecessor.
The new architecture, apart from performance also adds support for new tech and gear. For starters, the CPUs will perform better while working with AI computation. They also bring in support for Thunderbolt 3 for up to four ports. For faster wireless connectivity in your laptop, the 10th generation core processors also bring in support for next-generation Wi-Fi 6 connectivity.
The new processors will hit the markets along with upcoming laptops from brands like Dell, HP, Lenovo, Asus and others.
