Maruti Suzuki has made no efforts whatsoever to keep its upcoming electric vehicle (EV) offerings under the wraps. After the company first announced a fleet of electric WagonR prototypes ready for field tests in the country, several of the units have been spotted on the roads.
Now, the company has provided insights into its WagonR electric and Solio hybrid for the first time at the 2019 India Future Mobility Show. Imported from Japan as Custom Built Units (CBU), the two car offerings have been spotted on the roads before but have not been showcased by the company in this manner.

As can be seen in the pictures from the event, the electric WagonR is substantially different from the regular petrol model that is in sale in India. On the outside, the car sports LED headlights across a large two-part grille, a much more prominent bumper than before and door-mounted rear view mirrors. On the inside, the car comes with a touchscreen infotainment system in the shape of a tablet and wide, horizontal AC vents along with safety features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD.
However, it's is not definite that the same model will make its way to India. Instead, the company might opt for the new 2019 WagonR as a base for its electric variant. The electric WagonR will be making its debut in the country in 2020 at a price ranging from Rs 7 lakh to 8 lakh - double the price of the regular IC engine option.

However, with the recent announcements of the Indian authorities under the second phase of the FAME scheme, the electric car might get a considerable subsidy, making it easier for the buyers to opt for the electric variant.
The electric units of the Maruti Suzuki cars are being manufactured in the Indian plant of the company, based in Gurgaon, Haryana.
