Just before the news of Musk taking over Twitter spread online, the world¡¯s second-richest man, Jeff Bezos in a series of tweet responses pointed out Musk's business interests with respect to its expansion in China and support from the Chinese government.

This response was to a tweet by a New York Times reporter that highlighted that Musk owning Twitter could be leveraged for Tesla¡¯s business interests in China.

Bezos in his tweet stated, ¡°Interesting question. Did the Chinese government just gain a bit of leverage over the town square?¡± To the unaware, Musk had famously called Twitter the town square of the digital world.?
Soon after Bezos replied to his comment, stating, ¡°My own answer to this question is probably not. The more likely outcome in this regard is complexity in China for Tesla, rather than censorship at Twitter.¡±
He added, praising Musk, ¡°But we¡¯ll see. Musk is extremely good at navigating this kind of complexity.¡±

Musk hasn¡¯t responded to Bezos¡¯s tweets either directly or indirectly. Upon officially announcing the acquisition, Musk said in a statement, ¡°Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated.¡±
