People have been dying to see what the new PlayStation will have in store for them. Sony recently teased the hardware specifications that stack it as this powerhouse for gaming on 4K. However, it still hasn¡¯t revealed what the console will look like -- even though leaks have given us some hints.
However, last night, Sony quietly revealed the new controllers that will be shipped with the PlayStation 5, and it surely is one hell of a looker. Sony has dropped the DualShock moniker and now instead calls it a DualSense controller. Moreover, it has made some major changes, not just with its aesthetics but also to the hardware on the insides.
From the front, the controller truly looks nothing like the PS4 or even the PS3 controller. However, when you closely observe, you¡¯ll find a few things here and there that have been included for easing the migration of players from PS4 to the PS5 including the symmetrical layout of thumbsticks, the clicky touchpad etc.
One thing we hated about PS4 controller was that the LED lights were on the other side, where no player could actually see it while gaming. However, this time, Sony has put two LED light lines on the front, next to the trackpad which surely look cool.?
The grips on the PS4 have been changed a bit too. Gone are the cylindrical grips and in are the contoured grips like the ones on Xbox One controllers, that surely have been the better controller, while looking at the ergonomics.
The new controller has one cool thing that every gamer will truly appreciate -- it now comes with a built-in mic.?
This means now you won¡¯t have to wait to pair your headphone with the console, just to talk to your buds while gaming. In case you don¡¯t want them to hear you, it has a built-in mute button too. Additionally, you still get a headphone jack on the chin of the controller.?
Sony has finally moved on from the dated microUSB port and now has included a USB-C port for charging and syncing the controller with the console.?While Sony hasn¡¯t really revealed the battery size on the controller, they do say that they¡¯ve made thoughtful consideration to maintain a strong battery life.?
Unlike the rumble motors seen on the previous controller, the PS5 controller are loaded with advanced haptic hardware that will deliver a dynamic feedback such as revving of a car or feedback when a car is moving on a rocky terrain etc.?
The L2 and R2 triggers will now be adaptive, meaning it will allow developers to program the resistance of the triggers to simulate actions more accurately. Basically the amount you¡¯ll press will translate in the impact, especially in use cases like drawing a bow or accelerating while racing.?
Along with the bells and whistles, Sony has eliminated the ¡®Share¡¯ button and replaced it with a Create button. While not much has been revealed about this feature yet, it does say, ¡°We¡¯re once again pioneering new ways for players to create epic gameplay content to share with the world, or just to enjoy for themselves,¡± so it looks like Sony might bring some better ways to save and stream game content.
