PUBG (Player Unknown's Battle Grounds) has to be one of the most popular (and controversial) smartphone game today.
And now, a recent report by Sensor Tower Store Intelligence reveals that the game has earned over $1 billion in its year-long existence.?
Reuters
The game has witnessed a 540 per cent spike in growth with $25 million in August 2018 versus a whopping $160 million in August 2019.?
On iOS specifically, the game has witnessed a 165 per cent revenue growth year-over-year outside of China. In the same time, PUBG competitor Fortnite has plummeted by 36 per cent. Both PUBG Mobile and Fornite earned around $25 million on the platform.
According to the report, if China is also included in this equation, PUBG Mobile earned 3.7-times more than Fortnite last month. Also worth noting is the fact that Fortnite isn't available in China as of now.
The month of March this year marked the one year anniversary of the game launching on a mobile platform. The game has witnessed mass popularity, especially in the Asian subcontinent. The game has been downloaded and installed more than 400 million times globally.
Moreover, the game has also added over 45 million first-time players in August, more than twice the number of new players (21-million) witnessed in the month of July.?
This could primarily be due to the launch of PUBG Mobile Lite that gives players on budget smartphones with basic hardware the ability to truly enjoy the game without compromising on the experience.?

Looking at $1 billion that PUBG Mobile has managed to capture in a year, Fortnite has only made $752 million as of now, on iOS as well as Android.?
PUBG Mobile has definitely received a more-than-positive response in India since its launch with over 50-million users hooked on to it, and the number only keeps on spiking, along with controversies that hint the negative impact it has on the youth of the nation (even though its not the game's fault but the player's lack of self-control). Yet, its fan-following and popularity live on.?
