Facebook has made a habit of lifting a features from Snapchat (now Snap), including Stories for Instagram. Snap CEO Evan Spiegel has a thing or two to say about that.
Firstly, that he¡¯s not impressed, and secondly that Facebook can copy them and will still fail.
At Recode¡¯s annual Code Conference event on Tuesday, Spiegel ripped Facebook¡¯s Mark Zuckerberg a new one for his sneak-thief habits. ¡°Snapchat is not just a bunch of features, it has an underlying philosophy that really runs counter to traditional social media,¡± he said. ¡°I think that¡¯s why traditional social media feels threatened. Because fundamentally people realize that competing with their friends for ¡®Likes¡¯ and attention is kind of unpleasant and really not that great.¡±
Snap has always ensured to stay away from ¡°Likes¡± on its platform, with Spiegel ling-since pushing to make it a communication medium rather than generalised broadcast. He says it¡¯s a place for you and your close friends, as opposed to Facebook¡¯s competitive atmosphere. Because of that, he argues that Zuckerberg could copy all of Snap¡¯s features, but the latter would still survive.

¡°Fundamentally, they¡¯re having a really hard time changing the DNA of their company,¡± Spiegel added about Facebook. ¡°And the DNA of their company is all about having people compete with each other online for attention. Our values are hard to copy.¡±
