The inevitable return to office is looming over all of us. Now, Google CEO Sundar Pichai has explained why striking a balance between in-office work and remote work is key.
The chief of Google's parent company Alphabet, Pichai said that three days a week in the office and two days working from home gives employees a "balance" between office and home.
It appears that Google is also planning to implement a "three/two model". For two days every week, Google employees would be given the chance to decide where to work from.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai believes that at least three days at work gives employees a chance to collaborate with their peers, while two days help employees take time off from commute to and from work.
Is the three/two model permanent for Google? In conversation with The Wall Street Journal, Pichai said "I think so" while referring to the long commute faced by employees in cities like New York and San Francisco.?To ease collaboration among teams, Google would "probably" invest in real estate in the near future.

Currently, Google is "reimagining" its work spaces to make them more collaborative and also "fun", as Pichai stated.
Google is not calling back any of its employees to work before January 2022. Even after that period, each local office of Google would be allowed to decide when and how to orchestrate the great return to office.
So far, 20-30 per cent Google staff has voluntarily returned to office spaces. It was earlier revealed that Google workers who opt to permanently work from home could face pay reduction as high as 25 per cent. Google claims this is procedure, for the company decides pay based on location.
