Global NCAP has announced India¡¯s first five-star safety rated car after its recent crash test results and as per it, Tata Nexon is the one to achieve the coveted rating. The SUV from the house of Tata has received a five star rating for Adult Occupant Protection, while scoring a three star rating for Child Occupant Protection.
Alongside Tata Nexon, Global NCAP also released the crash test results of Mahindra Marazzo, which again amounted to an impressive four-star rating for Adult Occupant Protection. The model under test constituted of standard double airbags, ABS, SBR for driver and ISOFIX anchorages. The Marazzo model scored two stars for Child Occupant Protection.
As for the Tata Nexon, the new five star rating has been ramped up from its previous four-star score earlier this year, thanks to the recently added safety features by Tata including a Seat Belt Reminder (SBR) for driver and passenger, which now comes as a standard for all its variants. It is also required to pass a side impact test to meet UN95 side impact protection requirements
Global NCAP claims that the new model offers good protection for both adult head and neck and ¡°marginal¡± and ¡°adequate¡± protection for driver chest and passenger chest respectively. The pedals were displaced during the crash and hence displayed some risk for lower legs. As for the child protection, good protection was noticed for the 18 month old child dummy while the 3 year old passenger was left with exposed and vulnerable chest and head.
