Dating on Tinder could soon become more safe and secure as the online dating platform is working to ask all members on the platform to register and verify their ID with local-issued documentation.?

This is according to a release shared by the company. The new feature would add an additional layer of protection by asking users to verify their accounts by uploading local-issued IDs -- something that¡¯s already been done in Japan since 2019.?
As of now, they¡¯re asking users across the world about the kind of documents that are used in each country as well as location regulations as it gradually rolls out the feature for all.?
Rory Kozoll, head of trust and safety product at Tinder said in a statement, ¡°We know one of the most valuable things Tinder can do to make members feel safe is to give them more confidence that their matches are authentic and more control over who they interact with.¡±
In the initial stages, the ID Verification will be a voluntary process except in case the local law makes it mandatory. It also understands that some users might not be comfortable sharing their IDs online.?

Tracey Breeden, vice president of safety and social advocacy at Tinder parent company Match Group added, ¡°We know that in many parts of the world and within traditionally marginalized communities, people might have compelling reasons that they can¡¯t or don¡¯t want to share their real-world identity with an online platform. Creating a truly equitable solution for ID Verification is a challenging, but critical safety project and we are looking to our communities as well as experts to help inform our approach.¡±
Tinder has been leaving no stones unturned with respect to making the online dating experience safe and secure for everyone. Just last year it introduced a photo verification system that added a blue checkmark to user¡¯s dating profiles.

This year, in March, Tinder¡¯s parent company Match Group revealed their investment in background check company Garbo and that users on Tinder would be able to use this feature soon, although there is no tentative date for this feature to be rolled out as of yet.
