The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) today issued recommendations on net neutrality in India. In its recommendations, TRAI said that the Internet is an open platform and that Internet services delivered by companies should be done in a non-discriminatory manner.
TRAI also said in its net neutrality recommendations that based on content alone, no entity should be allowed to interrupt equal access to internet to everyone.?
Further defending net neutrality in India, TRAI forbade service providers from entering into any agreements with any agencies, if its the effect might be discriminatory in terms of Internet access in the country.?Licensing terms must also detail the list of bias the provider may have in terms of providing content.?
TRAI's net neutrality recommendations also said that telecom companies and Internet service providers must declare their traffic management activities, and the effects they may have on providing unhindered activity on the internet.?
Net neutrality advocates will claim this as a huge win for net neutrality in India.
