WhatsApp groups are here to stay, whether we like being part of them or we don¡¯t. Today, WhatsApp allows having a limit of 512 participants in a particular group, which definitely sounds like plenty.
However, leaks by WABetaInfo have revealed that the messaging app is working on extending this limit even further, to a whopping 1024 members.
What¡¯s surprising is that the current limit of 512 participants was only upgraded a few months ago in June, along with the ability to share files of up to 2GB in size, as well as emoji reactions.?
The new limit was spotted in an internal beta testing with a select bunch of users. According to WABetaInfo, the messaging app is also working on bringing new features for admins to have a better control over groups, including an approval system that offers the ability to look at admin-access requests.
Both the features are still under development and nowhere close to being ready for mass rollout, thus there¡¯s no specific timeline for when the features would eventually be rolled out.?
But these features aren¡¯t revolutionary by any means. Telegram, WhatsApp¡¯s rival messaging app already allows group chats to have up to two lakh participants, albeit without end-to-end encryption.
Goes without saying that chances are WhatsApp might not even bring these features to the final, stable build, so take this with a grain of salt.?
