Don't we all dream about a phone whose cellphone battery can never run out of charge? Looks like Xiaomi might be bringing us closer to that reality, with its upcoming patented smartphone design.

According to a report by Lets Go Digital, Xiaomi has filed a patent with World Intellectual Property Organisation or WIPO indicating that this Chinese smartphone maker is working on a smartphone with a back loaded with solar charging panels. The publication was first to spot the diagrams of the alleged solar-charging smartphone.?
According to the diagram, the device sports a bezel-less display at the front, with the two-thirds of the device equipped with what looks like a photo-voltaic solar panel at the back. The panel looks like it is housed below the glass panel. Moreover, with the panel in place, the device doesn't look too thick.?
According to the patent, the device is also missing a headphone jack and a front camera. While the headphone jack being eliminated isn't really surprising, the front camera could be housed within the display using a punch-hole design or something more advanced.

It goes without saying that since this is a patent filing, the chances of this phone actually hitting the market is actually quite unlikely. And even if it does enter the market, it'll be interesting to see how fast the solar panel would charge the phone.?
While we have faster-charging speeds on phones like OnePlus 7 Pro and even the Redmi K20 Pro as well as wireless charging on various smartphones, solar charging will definitely take things to a whole new level in sun-rich countries like India.?
Xiaomi seems to be experimenting with a lot of interesting new technologies for its smartphones. Recently it teased a Redmi phone that is going to be equipped with a 64-megapixel camera sensor along with three more cameras at the back, which will be a first for Xiaomi.?
