To help humans live on the Moon sometime in the near-future, scientists are assessing the feasibility of structures that could support safe colonies. China is reportedly exploring the use value of 3D printing to construct buildings on the Moon, according to Reuters.
By 2030, China hopes to land an astronaut on the Moon, following the 2020 lunar mission called "Chang'e 5" that brought lunar samples back to Earth. Before that happens, the Chang'e 6,7, and 8 missions would have been initiated.
The last probe will study the environment and mineral composition of the Moon while assessing if 3D printing technology may be used on the lunar surface. Quoting Wu Weiren, a scientist at the China National Space Administration, China Daily reported the following - "If we wish to stay on the moon for a long time, we need to set up stations by using the moon's own materials," Wu said.
During the Chang'e 8 mission, a robot capable of making bricks from soil lunar could make its way to the Moon, paving way for colonies on Earth's only natural satellite. In recent years, the race to space has intensified with the United States and China taking the lead.

In 2024, NASA will initiate its Artemis II mission, marking the first human fly-by of the Moon in decades. With its follow-up mission, NASA intends to put humans on the Moon again, marking the first attempt in over 50 years.
Living conditions on the Moon are not the same as Earth, naturally. Owing to no atmosphere, there are no known living organisms on the Moon, and temperatures can range from -156 degree Celsius in the dark to 150 degree Celsius in the light.
