Today, COVID-19 coronavirus is the only thing on everyone¡¯s mind. The disease is rapidly spreading from one person to another, while authorities are trying their best to contain the novel coronavirus.
Today, India has over 1000 confirmed cases and while the authorities have done a phenomenal job in making sure the virus doesn¡¯t spread as it did in Wuhan or Italy, cases are steadily rising with time.
Among this chaos, authorities are urging people to maintain social distancing and refrain from going out unless absolutely necessary, If they do step out, they¡¯re asked to cover their faces to prevent getting infected. We¡¯ve already told you why washing hands is loads better than using hand sanitisers.?
However, in case you were wondering that wearing face masks and social distancing aren¡¯t as important, words by China¡¯s CDC general-director George Gao who coordinated the coronavirus response in China would surely make you think once again.
He was in a conversation with ScienceMag when he made the world realise the importance of wearing face masks. And in case you were taking this habit for granted, this should be an eye-opener.
He said, ¡°The big mistake in the U.S. and Europe, in my opinion, is that people aren¡¯t wearing masks. This virus is transmitted by droplets and close contact. Droplets play a very important role¡ªyou¡¯ve got to wear a mask because when you speak, there are always droplets coming out of your mouth.¡±
And this is not surprising, as masks prevent people from spitting while they¡¯re talking. Additionally, it also blocks coughs and sneezes.?
He further added, ¡°Many people have asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic infections. If they are wearing face masks, it can prevent droplets that carry the virus from escaping and infecting others.¡±
Do you wear a mask while stepping out? If yes, of what kind? Let us know in the comments below.
