A day after an expert panel recommended the emergency use of Covid-19 vaccine candidate Covishield in India, a similar approval has been received by Bharat Biotech's indigenously developed COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin.?
The panel recommendation now needs to be followed up with an approval by DCGI, which is expected to follow soon.
The confirmation comes from government sources cited in an ANI report. The use of the?Covaxin vaccine?will be restricted and will be closely monitored on those getting the vaccine shot.??
The recommendation comes right after the panel put in a similar recommendation for the Covishield vaccine candidate developed by the Serum Institute of India in the country, taking the technology from the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine which has already been approved for use in the UK.
Once Covaxin gets the approval from DCGI for use in the country, it will be a part of what is supposed to be the biggest vaccination drive in human history.
A trial run of the vaccination drive was started today in almost all the states of the country. As the centre and state governments gear up to provide the vaccine units to the masses, the vaccine administration will be free of cost for the Indian citizens, health ministry has confirmed recently.
