With COVID-19 taking over our world, face masks have become the next big thing people are investing in.?
Innovators around the world are leaving no stone unturned to get you the most effective mask to help you stay safe from the novel coronavirus.?
A group of Israeli researchers have invented a reusable face mask that claims to kill SARS-CoV-2 or coronavirus with the heat, as reported by Reuters.
Developed by Professor Yair Ein-Eli with his team at Technion Israel Institute Of Technology, a prestigious university situated in Haifa, Israel. The mask heats up to temperatures of 65-70 degrees celsius and disinfects the mask in a matter of 30 minutes.
Ein-Eli saw the kind of waste disposable masks were generating and this forced him to create a safer, eco-friendly solution.?
He said in a statement to Times of Israel, ˇ°Our idea could change masks from disposable items into gadgets that people clean, meaning they wouldnˇŻt need replacing so regularly and hospitals wouldnˇŻt need such large supplies.ˇ±
He added, "You have to make it reusable and friendly, and this is our solution."
The masks look exactly like an ordinary mask, with an air-valve, elastics and everything you see otherwise. However, this mask consists of a heating mechanism made of carbon fibres which are connected with a USB port to power the whole thing.?
Of course, in places where electricity and heat are involved, things do get a little scary. However, researchers claim the perfect use case for these masks is when you take it off for the day at a place where you donˇŻt need to wear it -- like in your car or at home.?
ThatˇŻs when the 30-minute disinfection process could be run by the wearer and make the mask germ-free to be worn once again.?
Ein-Eli and his team have submitted a patent for the mask in the United States in late March and say they are discussing commercialising the product with the private sector. The entire setup isnˇŻt very expensive either -- with a $1 premium over the price of a typical disposable face mask.
