People often associate gamers with people who aren¡¯t the most active, associating it with a lazy activity. However, a new study suggests that playing video games actually can help one lose weight.

Reported first by DailyMail, researchers have found that playing a competitive online game for two hours straight could burn as many calories as doing 1,000 sit-ups.?
This is according to research conducted by Stakester -- an app that encourages players skilled in a particular game to use their skills in order to earn money and prizes. The researchers used smart devices to measure heart rates and calories burned by 50 gamers while playing popular competitive titles like FIFA, Warzone for two hours, as well as the number of calories burned while they performed 1,000 situps.?
Final results showed that male gamers burned an average of 210 calories per hour during the experiment. Female gamers on the other hand burned slightly 236 calories per hour.?

Comparing the burn rate with consumption, researchers suggested that it would take around 57 minutes to burn off a Mars bar which is around 230 calories, an hour and four minutes to burn a Big Mac burger, which is around 257 calories and 50 minutes to burn, a Dominos Margherita pizza, which has around 200 calories.
Tom Fairey, CEO and founder of Stakester said in a statement, ¡°We all know that competition increases our heart rate and most of us have experienced the ¡®gaming sweat¡¯ that happens when you're searching for a last-minute goal in FIFA or in a tight spot in Warzone. It's no surprise that this burns calories, but we were surprised to see just how many are burned during a 2-hour session, it certainly beats doing 1000 sit-ups!¡±
