Guleria said in a statement to PTI, "If Covid-appropriate behaviour is not followed, the third wave can happen in six to eight weeks. We need to work aggressively to prevent another large wave till vaccination kicks in."
Guleria highlights that unless a considerable number of people get vaccinated, the COVID-19 appropriate behaviour needs to be followed by everyone.?
He also emphasizes that there is a need for more stringent measures specifically for surveillance and area-specific lockdowns in case of a significant outbreak. The moment cases from a particular area surge beyond 5 percent, area-specific lockdown measures must be put in place.?
He added, however, that putting another national-level lockdown won¡¯t be ideal for the nation, "However, a national-level lockdown cannot be a solution (to rein in the pandemic) keeping economic activity in mind."
Talking about the next wave affecting more children than adults, Guleria stated that there is no evidence suggesting that, as of now.?
Epidemiologists had earlier warned that the third wave of COVID-19 is inevitable and is expected to commence from September-October.?
The levels of COVID-19 cases reported every day have now dropped considerably, including the daily death count. On Sunday, the nation reported 53,256 new COVID-19 cases today, which is the lowest in 88 days. Total deaths went to 1,422 and the cumulative deaths came to 3,86,713.?

Moreover, daily recoveries have outnumbered the daily new cases for the 39th day in a row. 78,190 patients recovered over the last 24 hours, bringing the recovery rate to 96.36 per cent.
Regardless of the slightly positive numbers, it is imperative that people around the nation continue to avoid the wrath of the third wave in the worst possible manner.
