Scientists Find Immune Cell That Kills Most Cancers, And Reverse The Disease In Humans

It's an unbelievable accident. Scientists at Cardiff University were looking at some blood samples, trying to find immune cells that can fight a particular strain of bacteria, and ended up discovering an entirely new type of T-cell.

This new immune cell can fight and eliminate most types of cancers, the researchers have found.

Immune cells are essentially what make up the WBC (or white blood cells) in your blood, which gives the body the capacity to right disease causing pathogens. What the Cardiff University researchers have found is a completely new type of immune T-cell with a never-before-seen receptor.

This receptor in the immune cell is like a grappling hook that removes most types of cancer cells, without any impact to ordinary or healthy human cells.

What types of cancer can it kill?

In lab tests, these newly discovered immune cells showed they can hunt and kill lung, skin, blood, colon, breast, bone, prostate, ovarian, kidney and cervical cancer within cancer patients. This certainly raises the possibility of a universal therapy or cure against cancer -- especially cancer immunotherapy right now is so fragmented.

“Our finding raises the prospect of a ‘one-size-fits-all’ cancer treatment, a single type of T-cell that could be capable of destroying many different types of cancers across the population. Previously nobody believed this could be possible,” said Professor Andrew Sewell, lead author on this research from Cardiff University’s School of Medicine, according to The Telegraph.

He also said that there's a big possibility that these immune cells are already present widely across the human population, and it's a mystery as to why these immune cells with this particular receptor lie dormant and don't get activated even in a cancer patient.
