However, in a recent video going viral on the internet, people questioned everything they thought they knew about lions as they were simply left gaping at what the feline was up to in the clip.

A video went viral on Twitter after being shared by Susanta Nanda, an Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer. In the clip, a lioness was doing something unexpected: eating grass and leaves.
The clip was fascinating for many, showing the lioness holding onto a tree's branches and munching on the green leaves. Normally, we don't see powerful predators like lions doing this in the wild, but there are interesting reasons why she might be behaving this way.
The forest officer confirmed in his tweet that lions indeed enjoyed their occasional vegan lunches. While this might only be a rare occurrence, at times when lions are facing stomach aches or hydration deficiencies, they use the flora around them to regain their strength.
Lioness' Behaviour Was Similar To That Of House Cats
The video received thousands of clicks on the microblogging site, and people on the internet were both amazed and delighted to see such an unusual sight. Many Twitter users shared that they had seen similar behaviour in their pet cats, and they drew comparisons between domestic cats and wild lions.??
One user mentioned how their pets also loved munching on grass and tree leaves. But too much of it sometimes proved to be detrimental to their stomach health.?
Another joked that the lioness wanted to experience the vegetarian life for once, which is why she was reaching out to the green leaves on the tree for a taste.??
