In a major development, US President Donald Trump on Thursday launched a waitlist website for a new visa programme that provides permanent residency to foreigners willing to invest $5 million in the United States.
According to HT, this is a government-backed website called trumpcard.gov that has now gone live, where interested applicants can sign up to enrol themselves.
Donald Trump shared a post on his X (formerly called Twitter) to share the piece of information. On Truth Social, the president wrote, ¡°Thousands have been calling and asking how they can sign up to ride a beautiful road in gaining access to the greatest country and market anywhere in the world.¡±
In February, the US president described the Trump card as "somewhat like a green card, but at a higher level of sophistication".
On the other hand, the recently rolled-out website showcases an image of a shiny, gold-coloured card with Trump's face on it.
The 'gold card' programme was first announced in February by Donald Trump to offer wealthy foreigners a chance to gain permanent residency in the United States by investing $5 million.
The programme offers a route to gain complete citizenship and green card benefits to applicants. Moreover, Trump, while talking about its benefits, had said, ¡°We¡¯re going to be putting a price on that card of about $5 million, and that¡¯s going to give you green card privileges, plus it¡¯s going to be a route to citizenship.¡±
¡°Wealthy people will be coming into our country by buying this card,¡± he added.
To register or enrol in the new visa programme, applicants are required to enter basic details, including their name, region, email address, and whether they are applying as an individual or on behalf of a business.?Additionally, earlier this month, the US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick joined the Republican president in the programme called the 'Gold Card' and stated that the traditional way of immigration for America is changing. The Trump Card is coming out, and this will create an enormous opportunity for people to get a chance to come to America.
