Stargazers in northeastern Mexico looked up around 10:14 p.m. local time, a couple of days ago, to find an extremely bright fireball light up the sky.?
It has now been reported that it was an especially bright meteor ¨C falling through Earth's atmosphere.?
The meteor was also caught on some security cams, webcams and doorbell cams.It was visible over the city of Monterrey ¨C in the Mexican state of Nuevo Le¨®n. Local newspapers in Monterrey reported that the meteorite, or chunk of space rock left after the meteor's fall, landed in a small town in the neighbouring state of Tamaulipas.?
According to Newsweek, 'The fireball was most visible above the states of Nuevo Le¨®n, Coahuila and Tamaulipas, which border the U.S., around 10:14 p.m. local time, according to the Global Atmospheric Monitoring Agency, part of Mexico's Institute of Geological and Atmospheric Research'.?

A few days ago, many people reported the sighting of a streaking 'fireball' over Pennsylvania and Ohio between 4:00 and 6:30 am, that remained in the sky for a short time before disappearing from view.
It was later established that the fireball was a meteor that 'dove almost straight down into the atmosphere'.?
Thousands of meteors of fireball magnitude occur in the Earth's atmosphere each day. However, a majority of these occur over oceans and uninhabited regions, and many cannot be seen because of the daylight. Those that occur at night also stand a low chance of being detected due to pollution and the relatively low numbers of people out to notice them.
This particular meteor seemed really bright.
