Many unusual-looking sea creatures keep showing up across the globe leaving experts and laymen baffled. Now, another one has been discovered in the Caribbean.
An unusual-looking 'blue goo-like' sea creature was discovered on the floor of the Caribbean Sea in Puerto Rico. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Okeanos (NOAA) explorer crew found this unusual-looking creature during a deep sea dive of about 1,400 feet south of St. Croix on August 30.
A video shared by the team on their Twitter account showed the unusual-looking creature formless and faceless creature just staying still. The creature appeared to be limbless and covered with a lot of bumps. It also had the colour of 'worn denim.'
"Have you heard about the latest Okeanos mystery? Seen multiple times during off St. Croix, this 'blue goo' animal stumped scientists, who thought it might be soft coral, sponge, or tunicate (but def not a rock!)," the Okeanos team tweeted on Wednesday.
?
A scientist, who observed the circles on its surface, pointed out it might be able to extend and retract part of itself.?
"Scientists think it may be a soft coral, sponge, or tunicate...but at the moment, it remains a mystery," the team said."It's not quite gooish, but doesn't seem particularly not gooish," one scientist noted in the video feed.
As per the team, coral and sponges experts will be consulted to find a definitive answer regarding the identity of the creature.?
The?National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Okeanos (NOAA) team made this discovery?during the Voyage to the Ridge 2022 expedition between May 14 and September 2.?
During this expedition, the team was trying to collect data on "unexplored and poorly understood deepwater areas" off the East Coast, including the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and Azores Plateau.?
The team of scientists during this expedition also discovered sea urchin Conolampas sigsbei in deep waters near St. Croix.
This is not the first time a bizarre sea creature has been caught. Recently in April, a?fisherman?sailing the Norwegian Sea caught a bizarre 'dragon-like' fish. Roman Fedortsov was fishing off the coast of Troms? in Norway when he came across the unusual-looking creature.?
He keeps posting pictures of rare sea creatures he finds during his expedition.?
