Nature never ceases to amze! A mysterious purple cloud that eerily hovered over a town northern Chile?has left locals baffled.?
The unique phenomenon was spotted hovering low over the city of Pozo Almonte last Sunday morning.?An extraordinary image shows the violet tint stretching across the skyline during the daytime.?
What is more intriguing is the fact that the?coloured stretch was visible across the otherwise cloudless sky.
Local authorities launched an investigation to understand?the phenomenon,?with several potential explanations put forward.?The cloud cover originated at the Cala Cala mine, very close to the town.
"We are carrying out an inspection process, which shows us that this fact is due to the failure of a motor of the booster pump,"?Al Dia?quoted Deputy Regional Director of Tarapaca, Christian Ibanez, as saying.
Environmental official Emanuel Ibarra added the pump failure had caused iodine at the plant to change from a solid to a gaseous state, according to the outlet.??
Tarapaca Region representative Daniel Quinteros said: "Until now, there have been no medical consultations or affectations as a result of the situation we are experiencing."
"We are also in contact with the Superintendency of Environment so that tomorrow we can evaluate the filing of a complaint for non-compliance with the regulations and the commitments made by the company in environmental matters," he added.

After this, the state troopers put up an official statement about what actually happened and settled all sorts of speculations. The statement said,?'There have been no reports of overdue aircraft or ELT activation indicating an aircraft crash. A rescue team on a helicopter flew a mission around the Lazy Mountain area this morning and located nothing suspicious and there were no signs of crashed aircraft.¡±
