Auroras have been a once-in-a-lifetime bucket list experience sought after by many travel enthusiasts around the world. People make elaborate plans to visit higher altitudes in European and American cities to catch the mesmerising view of the dancing lights in the night sky.
However, people in the far south of America were surprised after a natural phenomenon made it possible for them to catch a glimpse of the northern lights.
On Sunday, April 23, a severe geomagnetic storm flared up strong Aurora Borealis over the United States. The phenomenon was so strong that the northern lights were seen as far as the US and Mexico border.?
Usually, states close to the US-Canada border have a higher chance of catching these lights. However, on Sunday, sights of the auroras were recorded as far as California, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and Arkansas, according to spaceweather.com. The lights were also seen all around the UK and northern Europe.?
A video capturing the dancing aurora borealis posted on Reddit is taking the internet by storm. Over Twitter too, people from around the USA shared their view of the flaring northern lights. The fabulous show was seen on Sunday because of a coronal mass ejection. For those who have no idea what that is, it is a massive eruption of solar material from the Sun¡¯s corona.?

One user noted how these auroras become more colourful on camera than in real life, ¡°They don't look anywhere near this to the human eye. I live in northern Sweden and have seen some powerful ones. For some reason, they become much more colorful on camera. It's still a show worth watching though.¡±
