The arctic weather in the US played tricks above Minnesota skies as breathtaking photos of halos of light around the sun with incredible snowy backdrops and a bright blue sky went viral on social media.?
People were left in awe after witnessing the stunning scenes.?
The incredible phenomenon is also known as sun dog, which is caused by refraction through ice crystals in the atmosphere. They often occur at 22-degree angles from the sun and are also called 22-degree halos. They also cause a ring of light to appear around the sun. In other words, this is the Kaleidoscopic Effect.?
It is unknown how the wonder got its nickname, but some believe it refers to a dog following its master,?some think it was first spotted by a dog walker, while others think it shows the Greek God Zeus walking his dogs across the sky.??

The temperature was -5¡ãC but the wind chill was -31¡ãC, and the sun dogs were visible after a strong blizzard the night before.
This is not the first time sun halos have been spotted in the sky.
In June last year, a rainbow-coloured sun halo appeared in Hyderabad. The incredible phenomenon left impressed as they witnessed a rare phenomenon, a halo in the sky circling the sun.?
A similar rainbow-coloured circular halo was also witnessed by the?people in Bengaluru in May last year.?
