The latest addition to 'things we would love to know about' is the video of a tree where the bark is a source of water. The clip was shared by retired Indian Forest Services Digvijay Singh Khati on the micro-blogging website.?
He wrote: 'Terminalia Tomentosa, Crocodile bark tree or Sain. This tree can quench your thirst in rare circumstances'.
In the clip, a forest official uses a sickle to make a small opening in the bark of the tree which leads to water oozing out the bark. Officials present at the scene take turns to quench their thirst.
Ever since the video was posted on Twitter, it has become a hit with netizens who have viewed it more than 1 lakh times with over 3,OOO retweets. People called it 'magic tree' as well as thanked the retired official for sharing the knowledge and also asked how to do the same without causing any damage to the tree.
Terminalia elliptica is a species of Terminalia which is native to southern and southeast Asia, namely in places like India, Nepal, Myanmar, Thailand, Bangladesh, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. The tree is found in both dry and moist forests in southern India.
