Imagine stepping out to find a bunch of snakes packed up in a pillowcase waiting for you at the door. We're sure that's not something you want to come across as a routine. Well, that was exactly the case in the UK where snakes were found in a bin behind Farringdon Fire Station in Sunderland, northeast England, not once but twice.
According to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), after the fire station officials discovered 13 pythons last week, another round of 15 corn snakes and a carpet python were found in pillowcases in the same spot.?
RSPCA inspector, Heidi Cleaver, informed that the 16 snakes were taken to the vet and are in good health, given the conditions they were left in. Snakes do not do well in the cold since their body temperature relies on the environment.?
One of the pythons that was found in the first batch had died due to poor health.?The inspector also said she was shocked to find more snakes at the same spot. She added,
"We were in the midst of Storm Dennis at the weekend when these snakes, who need heat and light in order to survive, were left outside in the cold with just a pillowcase to contain them.?It would have been very stressful for the snakes to be in such close proximity to each other as well."
If the reptiles' bodies get too cold, their immunity weakens drastically which can severely jeopardise their health.?The RSPCA is investigating these bizarre incidents to find out who is behind the dumping the snakes and take further action.?
