Moreover, it is better to avoid harsh chemicals during the process. ¡°After 2 days of Holi, if the stubborn colours aren¡¯t going away, then it can be a problem. However, be vigilant, as these colours do more harm than good as they contain harmful chemicals like lead, mercury, chromium, and azo dyes, which can cause serious skin and hair problems,¡± says Dr. Jisha Pillai, dermatologist, Lilavati Hospital Mumbai.

Before playing Holi, people who applied coconut or olive oil to their skin and also their hair are lucky, as ¡°this can help create a protective barrier, making it easier to wash off colour later,¡± says Dr. Shareefa Chause, dermatologist, Dr. Shareefa Skin Care Clinic, Mumbai.?
- Avoid using hot water: According to Dr. Chause, ¡°It is better to avoid hot water to wash your face and instead use a mild cleanser with lukewarm or cold water to wash your face.¡±
- Do not use harsh face scrubs: Do not use harsh scrubs, as they can cause redness and irritation.
- Aloe vera gel: After the face wash or bath, apply a generous amount of moisturiser or aloe vera gel to soothe your skin and also reduce irritation or redness that chemical-based colours can cause. ¡°For hair wash, use a mild shampoo that does not include sulphate or any type of harsh chemicals. Also, follow it up with a deep conditioner or a hair mask to restore moisture and prevent your hair from getting dry,¡± suggests Dr. Chause.

- Use micellar water: Dr. Chause says, ¡°To remove the Holi colour from sensitive areas like the face or neck, one can use micellar water or baby oil. This can help remove colour without irritating.¡±
- Eat healthy and stay hydrated: Individuals are advised to drink plenty of water to help their skin stay healthy and hydrated.
- Do not scratch the skin: If you are experiencing any type of allergic reaction like itching, burning sensation, or redness, then try to apply a cold compress to that area. Do not try to scratch it as it can worsen the allergy.
- Seek medical help if needed: If the allergic reaction persists for an extended period, then consider consulting a dermatologist immediately.?
