Coffee is an acidic beverage which lowers the pH of your mouth which temporarily weakens the tooth enamel and makes it more susceptible to damage. When we drink coffee it makes its way into the tiny ridges and holes in our teeth and leads to staining, discolouration and brown spots.

To minimise enamel damage and teeth staining, the American Dental Association recommends waiting for at least 30 minutes and ideally 60 minutes after consuming acidic foods and beverages such as coffee. In the meantime, keep ready to learn alternate oral hygiene practices that you can practice to reduce damage and promote long-term oral health.
