Honesty is unfortunately quite uncommon in this world, but this auto driver proved that there are still clean-hearted people around us. According to a Times of India report, a Chromepet resident in Tamil Nadu's Chennai left behind 50 sovereigns of gold jewellery worth more than Rs 20 lakh in an autorickshaw, on Wednesday evening, after his daughter got married.
However, even though he must have thought that he will never see his valuables again, he got it back within hours thanks to the autorickshaw driver. The report further adds that police have felicitated the autorickshaw driver, Saravana Kumar.
According to a police officer, the wedding took place at a hall in Chromepet. The man, Paul Bright, who is a businessman was on his way back home in an auto, along with the gold jewellery in a bag and was busy talking over the phone throughout the journey. Once he arrived at his residence, Kumar collected the fair from Bright and took off. However, a little while later, he noticed the bag full of gold on the back seat. He then wondered how he will return it to its owner since he did not have Bright's phone number.
During this, Bright and his family members had realised that the bag was missing and were panicking as the bride had to be sent to her in-laws' house. Bright lodged a complaint with the Chromepet police but he did not remember the autorickshaw's registration number. A case was registered and the police checked the footage from the cameras along with the routes he had travelled and eventually managed to locate the autorickshaw.?
The autorickshaw was found to be registered in the name of Kumar's sister. However, before the police reached the spot with Bright, Kumar had already arrived at the station with the jewellery. The police officer said that Paul was in tears when the bag was handed to him.?
Kumar was presented with a bouquet at the police station. ¡°I panicked on seeing the huge jewellery bag. I know honesty will help me till my life ends. I have never overcharged my passengers,¡± said Saravana Kumar.
