A three-year-old boy was dropped by his father from the window of a burning apartment building and was caught by firefighters below in a dramatic rescue.

A man and his son were trapped inside their second-story apartment at the South Ridge Woods complex in South Brunswick when firefighters and police officers got there early morning, ABC7 News reported.?
The unnamed man stuck on the second floor caught the attention of the authorities and tossed his young child out of the window to firefighters down below. He then himself jumped?from the second-floor window headfirst to escape the blaze.?
Both received minor injuries, according to a press release.
All of the residents inside the 24-unit building were able to flee the fire, according to Monmouth Junction Fire Chief Scott Smith.?¡°This was a total team effort to extinguish this fire and ensure all occupants were able to escape,¡± Smith said in a statement.??
The scene was caught on video as both the baby and father were rescued by the first responders.
"This is what we signed up for, this is the exciting part of the job, you want to help people and do the right thing," Ryan Bartunek, an officer with the South Brunswick Police Department, said.
People were asked to avoid the area as crews worked to get the fire under control.?The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The Red Cross has responded to the apartments to help some 50 people displaced by the fire.??
