Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, will get to wear the coveted Kohinoor when Prince Charles is made king.?
Queen Elizabeth II on Saturday expressed her "sincere wish" that Camilla?should be known as ¡°Queen Consort¡± when her son succeeds her as expected, Daily?Mail reported.?
While marking?the 70th anniversary of her accession, the monarch made clear her desire, unambiguously paving the way for Queen Camilla.?
Prince of Wales made clear his gratitude to the Queen for her support, saying that he and Camilla were ¡®deeply conscious of the honour represented¡¯ by his mother¡¯s wish.??
In an exclusive report in the Daily Mail, it has now been reported that Camilla will have the Queen¡¯s priceless Kohinoor diamond crown placed on her head when Charles is made king. The crown was created for King George VI¡¯s coronation in 1937.
The Kohinoor (also spelled Koh-i-Noor) is a 105.6 carat diamond steeped in history. The diamond was found in India in the 14th century and changed many hands over the course of centuries.? ??
In 1849, after the British annexation of Punjab, the diamond was ceded to Queen Victoria. It has been part of the British Crown Jewels since then - but continues to routinely be claimed as ¡°stolen property¡±.?
According to the Daily Mail, ¡°the Queen Mother¡¯s crown features 2,800 diamonds with a large stone given to Queen Victoria in 1856 by the Sultan of Turkey as a gesture of gratitude for British support during the Crimean War. The front cross holds the famous 105-carat Kohinoor diamond, which originated in India, in a detachable platinum mount.¡±
Since becoming part of the British Crown Jewels, the historical crown t has been worn by a number of British queens. First by Queen Victoria; then Queen Alexandra, followed by Queen Mary of Teck, and most recently the Queen Elizabeth II. The diamond is currently on public display in the Jewel House at the Tower of London.?
If all goes to plan, then Camilla will also have that honour to wear the crown.?
