Skywatchers across India were psyched when news of the Ladakh UT Administration proposing a dark sky reserve in Hanle was made public.?The idea came to be in order to increase the tourism of the state as well as give India its own view of the Milky Way.
Well, one skywatcher was more than excited to visit the observatory. He packed up his bags and travelled to the village located in the eastern part of Ladakh.?The reserve not only promises to increase astronomy tourism but also promotes eco-friendly activities, spreads awareness about astronomy, and boosts scientific research.
Photographer Vaibhav shared mesmerising views from the observatory on Instagram.?While the blogger made his way to the incredible site and experienced one of the most tantalising views one could get from India, he shared bits of what he felt on his excursion in his caption.??
He wrote, ¡°Hanle has the darkest sky I have seen and captured till date, even the milkyway is astonishing over here. This place is completely out of this world, having no ties with any of human pollution, that doesn¡¯t even have any mobile connectivity. Being the one closest to the nature, this place makes a person see through themselves deep inside. The exploration can make any person spell bound.¡±
Check out the view in his video below:
It was back in December 2022, when the Ladakh UT Administration proposed the idea of the reserve. Now, the sight is open to all tourists. The reserve encompasses an area of 1,073 square kilometres and is situated within the Changthang Wildlife Sanctuary.
It is located adjacent to the Indian Astronomical Observatory, which is the second-highest optical telescope in the world, placed at an altitude of 4,500 metres. The reserve, which is situated near the Indian Astronomical Observatory, makes it a prime location for stargazing enthusiasts to spend their time picking apart the shimmering dots in the night sky.
Given the novelty of the reserve in India, many travellers are waiting for their chance to visit the place. That is why Vaibhav¡¯s exploration of the night sky at Hanle gained surging support from people on the Internet.
One user wrote, "I badly want to visit this place," while one was completely overwhelmed, "My eyes tear up whenever I see this; if I ever saw this IRL, I'd cry out my heart, now that's wt u call overwhelming! This is no.1 in my bucket list!" The view of the Milky Way from the reserve certainly stunned many.
