From Living In A Hut To Becoming A Doctor And IAS, This Is The Inspiring Story Of Dr Rajendra Bharud
"Poverty is what we have known since birth. It is etched so deep within every person in the village that no one realises they are poor or illiterate. Each person is happy with what they have, and by living on nature¡¯s resources.¡± These are the words by Dr. Rajendra Bharud, from Samode village in Sakri Taluka who studied MBBS and to his mother's surprise came back to his village as an IAS.
Nandurbar Collector Dr. Rajendra Bharud is an example for those who say that a man cannot fulfil his dreams without money. Today we bring the story of a tribal who wrote a history of hope that inspired a lot of generations.
Who is Rajendra Bharud?
Dr. Rajendra Bharud's life is a tale of wonder, too. Dr. Rajendra Bharud was born on January 7, 1988, in the small village of Samode village in Sakri Taluka. When he was in his mother's stomach his father passed away. Rajendra Bharud's family was so poor that he did not have money to click even a single photo of his father. Bharud¡¯s mother earned their livelihood by selling liquor, and the entire family stayed under one small hut made from sugarcane leaves.
Rajendra Bharud while interacting with a newspaper said that I was three years old. I used to cry when I was hungry. My crying used to cause trouble to drinkers. Some people used to put drops of alcohol in my mouth to silence me. Grandma would also give me some alcohol instead of milk so that hunger would disappear to some extent and I would be silent. A few days later, he got into the habit of alcohol. He also said that our medicine was only alcohol after a cold cough.
Rajendra Bharud also added that he used to study outside the house sitting on the platform. People who came to drink alcohol have given some extra money to bring snacks from a nearby shop. I bought some books with the same money. I studied hard and scored 95 percent marks in the class tenth exam and 90 percent marks in the 12th standard. Sitting in the medical entrance exam in 2006.
Tribal who wrote a history of hope
Battling all odds, Dr. Bharud cleared a medical entrance exam in 2006. He earned his medical degree from Mumbai's KEM hospital and Seth GS Medical College and has been an inspiration to the public health department and district collectors across Maharashtra. Rajendra Bharud proved himself by getting the ¡®Best Student Award¡¯ in KEM hospital and Seth GS Medical College.

A new beginning for Rajendra Bharud?
When Rajendra Bharud was in the final year of MBBS, he decided to appear for UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) exams. This was no easy task, Bharud was studying for two exams even as my internship was on. In the final year of medicine, along with his MBBS exam, he also wrote his UPSC exam and cleared it in his first attempt. When his UPSC results were declared, Dr Rajendra was back in his village, and his mother had no idea that her son was now a civil officer.

Become a doctor first and then IAS to help the poor
Rajendra explains that ¡°I had dreamed of becoming a doctor since childhood so that I could help other people. But, as I grew up, I realized that to help people, I needed to educate them and provide opportunities for a better life. To do this I had to become a civil servant. ¡±
However, he was selected for IRS service on the basis of rank in the first attempt. But he tried once again and in the 2013 examination, he achieved his goal by becoming an IAS.
Rajendra Bharud trained in Mussoorie the next few years and then he was posted as Assistant Collector and Project Officer in Nanded District in 2015. In 2017 he was posted as Chief Executive Officer of Solapur. Finally, in July 2018, he was made the Collector of Nandurbar.
Made headlines during Covid-19 pandemic
During the second covid-19 wave of the county, when the rest of the country tirelessly tries to stock up on oxygen cylinders and provide more hospital beds for Covid-19 patients, IAS officer Dr. Rajendra Bharud, who is the District Collector of Nandurbar in Maharashtra which has a population of 16 lakhs, had things under control because he prepared for it beforehand.
A doctor-turned-bureaucrat, Dr. Rajendra Bharud, the collector of Maharashtra¡¯s Nandurbar had managed very well the situation during the pandemic to keep the district running with an adequate supply of medical oxygen, hospital beds, isolation wards for Covid-19 patients and a well-planned vaccination drive.
IAS officer is a shining example of determination and solitary
Dr. Rajendra Bharud has also written a Marathi book ¡°Mee Ek Swapan Pahil¡± (2014), where he describes his struggles, travels and his mother¡¯s sacrifices for raising three children.
Rajendra Bharud¡¯s life story is not only inspirational but an example for those who give excuses for their money problem and are criticised for their luck.
Today, Dr. Bharud lives in government quarters with his mother, wife and children. Dr. Rajendra¡¯s journey towards becoming an IAS officer is a shining example of determination and solitary meditation and also inspiring.
