This incident is reminiscent of one of the most tragic scenes from a Disney movie - that of Bambi's mother's death.
The scene show's Bambi's mother warning him of a 'man' chasing them down in a snowy forest, before she gets shot and leaves poor little Bambi behind.
Just like Bambi, is this baby Rhino, pinning for his mother and trying to wake her, after she got shot by heartless poachers.
The incident took place in??South Africa and the heart-wrenching video was shared on Twitter by Indian Forest Service officer Parveen Kaswan.?
"The picture of poaching! A baby #rhino tries to wake #mother, who is killed by poachers for the #horn. Devastating & eye opening," he wrote while sharing the video.
According to Mr Kaswan , the mother rhino was killed by poachers for her horn and the baby rhino was spared, only to grow up and probably face the same fate as her mother.?
A voice of a man in the background, recording the video, reveals that the baby is desperately trying to suckle some milk and wake the mother with no response.
He also says, "I can¡¯t understand this. This is horrific to see," and we couldn¡¯t agree more.
An Independent UK report states that video comes from an incident that took place last year in February and the mother¡¯s horn had been hacked off hours before she was found in a national park, the report states.?
The baby rhino who was trying to suckle on her mother, was tranquilised and taken to a Rhino orphanage by wildlife rescuers.
The report states that the baby was fed with a bottle, and was given a blindfold and earplugs to minimise stress to cope with her mother's demise.?
South Africa, has by far, the largest population of rhinos in the world. From 2007-2014 the country experienced an exponential rise in rhino poaching ¨C a growth of over 9,000 per cent, states this report.
South Africa holds nearly 80% of the world¡¯s rhinos and has been the country hit hardest by poaching criminals, with more than 1,000 rhinos killed each year between 2013 and 2017, reports savetherhino.org
As compared to 2018, the number of Rhino poaching incidents has seen a significant drop in 2019, the Save Rhino organisation claims that this could either be the? anti-poaching lobby making huge strides in curbing the menace or the less positive one where poachers aren't able locate any more Rhinos owing to extensive poaching.?
