Remember when Game of Thrones was the global obsession? Every new episode was a major event, sparking endless debates and wild fan theories.?
The show's impact was so massive that it even influenced baby names, with "Khaleesi" becoming a popular choice for new arrivals.?
In a twist that could only happen in a Game of Thrones fan's life, one mother in England who named her daughter Khaleesi after the iconic character from the show ended up facing legal trouble.?
In Game of Thrones, Emilia Clarke's character Daenerys Targaryen was bestowed with the title "Khaleesi," which means queen.
What she didn't anticipate was that this beloved name would lead to a real-life drama.
Lucy, from South West England, was "absolutely devastated" when her daughter's passport application was rejected. The reason? The name Khaleesi is trademarked by Warner Brothers.?
"I was astonished," Lucy told the BBC. "I had no idea you could trademark a name!"
Lucy had been eagerly planning a family vacation and was crushed when the passport office informed her that the name Khaleesi was not acceptable without Warner Brothers' approval.?
"We were so looking forward to our first holiday together," she lamented.
After seeking legal advice, Lucy learned that her daughter could indeed use the name.?
With this new information, she contacted the Passport Office to rectify the situation. "I was frustrated," she said. "If the name was a problem, shouldn't it have been flagged when we got the birth certificate?"
Fortunately, the Passport Office later called Lucy to apologise for the mix-up and agreed to process Khaleesi's passport.?
Well, it seems even in real life, you can't escape the drama of Game of Thrones.
