After triple talaq was declared unlawful by the top court, cases where husbands use this method to divorce their wives continue to crop up. And more often than not, these cases involve fallout over ridiculous reasons.
Like when?a 26-year-old man divorced his 23-year-old wife and?went to the rooftop and shouted triple talaq because she could not fulfill his demand for dowry.?
And the reasons only get more ridiculous from here.
More recently, a man was charged for allegedly divorcing his wife in Rajasthan¡¯s Baran district, the police said on Wednesday. 24-year-old Shabroonnisha filed a complaint at the police station, alleging that her husband gave her triple talaq after she refused to take a carrom board from him for their son, they said.?
She currently stays with her parents as she has filed a domestic violence case against her husband Shakil Ahmed, the police said. The couple has already appeared in the court hearing of the case.?
The incident happened while they were returning home and had stopped on the way and offered the carrom board for their son, who lives with the mother, they said. When Shabroonisha refused, Shakil Ahmed, in a fit of rage, said 'talaq' thrice, the Station House Officer, Roop Singh said.?
On July 30, Parliament had approved a legislation criminalising the practice of triple talaq, which allows a man to divorce his wife by repeating the word ¡®talaq¡¯ three times.?
