A kind deed goes a long way - a social media influencer raised a whopping $2,40,000 (Rs 1.8 crore) for an Uber driver who helped her out after she was robbed and left stranded at Coachella.?
23-year-old Becca Moore said that her phone, credit cards, and keys to a rental car were stolen after she attended the famous Californian music festival in the Coachella valley.
Miss Moore told USA Today that she was stranded on the streets for a while when finally an Uber driver stopped and offered to help her out.?
The driver, identified as Raul Torres first drove the 23-year-old to a store to buy a new phone. On her way back, the young influencer broke down and narrated her ordeal to Raul.
"I was kind of downplaying it, and he was like, 'No. This is actually bad. I'm not going to let you go into the Sprint store and leave you. I'll just wait and make sure you get a phone'," Becca told USA Today.?
The driver extended his kindness further when he took the day off and took Becca to a Starbucks and then to a police station to report the theft.?The police traced the phone to an Airbnb but were unable to find it, said Becca.?
However, she and Torres were able to find the lost phone during an additional search attempt.?Luckily, her credit card was inside the phone case.Following the eventful day, Becca informed her TikTok followers about Torres. She even learned that his daughter was battling cancer. That is when the influencer started a GoFundMe and shared it on TikTok with her followers to raise support for Torres.
The fundraiser has already collected over $2,45,000 and continues to grow.?
"It hit $1,000 in one hour and then $100,000 in 24 hours. That was the most insane thing ever. I still can't believe it," said Becca.
