Lucknow's first test tube baby, Prarthana, is now a 23-year-old woman, and a mother herself. According to a Times of India report,?Prarthana gave birth to a baby girl and was elated to be attending an event organised around IVF by Ajanta Hospital on Saturday.
Born in the same hospital in 1998, Prarthana said, ¡°Every time I am called to a programme by the hospital, it¡¯s an elated feeling. It feels like I¡¯m home again.¡±?
She shared that she learnt she was an IVF baby when her parents told her in school.?
¡°They brought me to Dr Geeta Khanna because of whom I¡¯m here. I grew up like any other normal child. It was never different for me,¡± she said.?
¡°My parents were extremely progressive. They made sure that everyone around me accepted me. We were in constant touch with the doctor. People had some notions about me but when they met me, they realised I am just like any other kid,¡± she added.?
The 23-year-old's mother Malti was in her 40s when Prarthana was conceived through IVF. There was no problem in conceiving or delivering her baby.
¡°Doctors have researched their way when it comes to test tube babies. I am honoured that Dr Geeta Khanna and her team helped my parents have me. It is always an emotional moment here since we are showered with love and respect,¡± she further said.?
Dr Khanna said, ¡°There are a lot of myths around IVF. Many people think that those born through IVF cannot conceive naturally. But they are wrong. Prarthana is one such example for us. IVF success depends on maternal age and proper patient selection.?
¡°The message to couples looking to conceive is to select a good obstetrical hospital with efficient neonatal care under one roof. Plus, don¡¯t directly go for IVF. Only 10-15% people require IVF.¡±?
¡°I was the one who christened Prarthana because she became the city¡¯s first test tube baby. She was a success and very lucky for me,¡± she added.
