After former South African president, Jacob Zuma was jailed last week for failing to appear for a corruption enquiry, the country has rocked with violence. The imprisonment of the former president sparked violence in two of the nine districts in the country which resulted in the deaths of 72 people and the arrest of 1,234.
Needless to say, the country is in the middle of chaos. Warehouses and shops have been forced to shut down and businesses have been torched in many places.
Amid this chaos, a video of a mother saving her 2-year-old?from a burning home is going viral on the internet.?
This 26-year-old mother by the name of Naledi Manyoni threw her baby girl to safety as they escaped a burning high-rise building in the South African city of Durban during protests.
She told Reuters that she was on the 16th floor of the building when the fire erupted. She then?ran down the stairs with her daughter. After that, she?made her way to a ledge above the street and tossed the toddler to a group of people below as bystanders cried out in worry and shock.?
Manyoni recalled the scary incident and said,?¡°I was scared, really scared, but there were people down in the street.?People were screaming ¡®throw her, throw her¡¯. The way I was panicking, I was trusting anyone to take my baby away from me because the place was burning and there was smoke outside.?After throwing her, I held my head in shock, but they caught her. My daughter kept saying, 'Mama you threw me down there.' She was scared.?What was important was for my daughter to be out of that situation... I couldn't escape alone and leave her behind."
The?heart-stopping moment was caught on camera by?Thuthuka Zondi, a professional cameraman and video producer.?
?People on the internet couldn't help but sympathise with this entire situation and prayed for several others who are dealing with this chaos in South Africa.?
Firefighters arrived at the scene about 20 minutes after people in the crowd had started rescuing others residents with ladders - which is how Ms Manyoni was reunited with her daughter. The daughter thankfully wasn't hurt and both and the daughter managed to return to the flat at about midnight.?
We hope that the situation in South Africa settles down as soon as possible.?
